Blackwood, Knysna, 140 mm fixed width
Knysna Blackwood is one of South Africa’s most treasured furniture timbers. It is grown in the forests of the Southern Cape and ranges from rich golden-brown to deep chocolate, often with striking streaks, and occasionally a shimmering curly figure. It is closely tied to the tradition of Knysna furniture making and is prized for fine furniture, cabinetry, tabletops, musical instruments and turned pieces.
Every board in this range is a fixed [width] mm width and priced per board.
The photos show typical stock from the batch. Wood is a natural, living material, so every board is unique in grain, figure and colour. It also moves slightly with moisture and the seasons, so actual dimensions may differ a little from those listed.
Each board is machined on two faces and sawn on the remaining sides, which gives you a clean, flat reference to work from. Blackwood works well with both hand and machine tools, and it sands and polishes to a deep, lustrous finish that really brings the colour and figure to life.
